Description

I really thought I was done with Fred Hembeck sketch cards, part 8 (and 9).

Yeah, I’m always down for a good 2-in-1.  Okay, maybe I should rephrase that.  What’s better than getting a Hembeck sketch card?  Getting a Hembeck BOGO card.  Seriously though, I just really liked this one as soon as I saw it.  It’s a fun visual, I like the colors, and yes, technically it’s two characters for the price of one (granted the other character is an exact duplicate).

Anyway, even though these guys are Batman villains, I still had to look them up.  Tweedledum and Tweedledee are Dumfrey and Deever Tweed.  They are actually cousins who are often mistaken for twins.  While they are not always drawn with identical outfits (see Additional Images), the visual obviously works better when they are, as in this case.  Either way, they seem like fun visual characters that are right up Fred’s drawing alley.  The point is, they made me laugh and smile (as Hembeck art is wont of doing).

Thanks for stopping by to share a chuckle.

Def a fun one. Fred sort of drew them like they are conjoined/siamese twins and since they look identical I guess that's be an easy assumption or mistake to make. Pretty soon your Thought You Were Done With Hembeck series will have more episodes than Star Wars!

Yeah, the "I thought I was done" gag might be getting a little tired.  Especially since I already have five new cards on the way.  The conjoined twins thing is a bit weird (even before I knew they were cousins instead of brothers).  Plus the fact that they look like they're joined at the shoulder but not at the hip.  Weird.  Not sure why he didn't just do them arm in arm, or with their arms around each other, or even just standing side by side.  I'm guessing that there is probably just some missing linework that he forgot to put in to show the separation at the shoulder and just colored it solid purple.

Perhaps the one character (pair) who looks tougher when rendered by Hembeck.  Such an inspired character choice!  Love the quadruple knee spirals and shoelace stitches
