Description
I first discovered this art in 2005 when a collector posted a link to his CAF gallery with a message saying he was selling his entire collection. I couldn't afford his entire collection, but something struck me about this page. The CAF gallery disappeared, and I looked around the web for the page a number of times.

In the summer of 2006, I discovered the artwork online.... and for sale! Collector Ted Latner was very gracious and cool in allowing time payments, so this page that I enjoy so much has finally come home to roost where it belongs... until I get hit by a bus and my wife and kids put it out at the curb!

John Buscema hit 'em out of the park in the first Silver Surfer series (in 1968) when he depicted evil guys... Mephisto, Loki... sitting on chairs or thrones in those iconic splash pages. I'll probably never own one of those, but that's cool, because I like this one just as much.

Wow! What a cool frontipiece to the "Silver Surfer: Judgement Day" graphic novel. I've always admired John Buscema's work on Silver Surfer, particularly this story in which Mephisto tries to manipulate Norrin Radd with various temptations. Buscema did a masterful job here, showing the demon conjuring up the image of Silver Surfer flying through the cosmos in the swirling waters at his feet. We can see by Mephisto's disgusted expression that he has been thwarted by Norrin Radd and that he will seek vengeance. Given the metaphysical powers that the demon has displayed, one has no doubt that the next time they meet, the stakes will be much, much higher. Phenomenal pick-up, congrats!
