Terry's style involves doing the shadows and highlights first. Each layer added is blended into the layer before. This gives the art a more natural feel. Making skin look like skin not a flat color.

Terry's work is done almost exclusively in pastels, like Weird Tales artist Margaret Brundage. Pastels are essentially oil paint distilled down to chalk powder and sold in colour sticks. Most of Terry's paintings are rendered with pastel chalks on napped paper which is traditionally used for pastel works of art.
