Description

The filipino version of Superman...not the best name and I prefer this original costume from the 60s....more beefcake... It is great to find such a history of Filipino superheroes...the appearance of these heroes coincided with the American occupation of the Philippines. Like many filipno superheroes, Captain Barbell gained his powers from an object of power that has an alien origin. Most of the time the heroes have to eat the object...luckily, Captain Barbell just had to touch it....very corny....but i love it nonetheless. In more current/movie versions of Captain Barbell, he is a child of the Future that is sent back to the past but "crashes" in our present in the Philippines! and is cared for by loving Grandparents---an obvious take on the Superman Myth.
