Description

For this job, the client hired me to re-create this cover as close to the published comic (the image on the left) as possible. The first step was to create an appropriate Marvel art board, color matched to simulate some aging. Next, I scanned the printed cover, and digitally created a blueline image from it. I resized the image to fit the art board space, digitally combined them into one image and printed it onto an appropriately sized piece of bristol art board. Next came the most challenging part - using the printed cover as a guide, I inked the blueline with pen, brush and india ink, replicating Tom Palmer's inking style. Fortunately, I've always had a knack for mimicking
different art styles, and the result is quite convincing, if I do say so myself! The finished, inked artwork is the middle image...there are a couple blank spots which I
knew would be covered by lettering in the next stage. Finally, using the printed cover, I digitally re-created the logo and blurbs, resizing, removing the color and sharpening them. After printing the result on color matched, stat-like paper, I cut and pasted all the lettering, and Voila! The cover is done, just as it would have looked!
