Description

I was hired to do this two part project - both restoration and recreation. The first image is the pencil art for a rejected cover. I digitally removed the logo, balloons, etc from the published cover (image three), removed the colors, sharpened them and printed them on color matched stat-like paper. These were then pasted up using archival adhesive to give the piece the look it would have had if DC had used it (see second image). The sizing and placement had to be adjusted because the two cover designs are different, but I kept things as close as possible to the published version. The next phase was to make an actual recreated version of the published cover. Using the art board from the unpublished versions as my source , I printed a replica of the DC board on a color matched properly sized piece of bristol board. Again, using the printed art as my guide, I inked a whole new version of the cover drawing by hand, carefully matching Murphy Anderson's great style. After pasting up the logo, etc, to match the printed cover, the recreation was complete!
