Description

Just a beautiful hand-colored Sunday from the first decade of colored comic-strip art. Little Allright was publisehd by the Boston Herald. It started in 1904, stopped, and then restarted for a short time in 1907. The artist, Wallace Goldsmith, was a children's illustration artist, best known for his illustrations for Oscar Wilde's "The Canterville Ghost." Although it was one of many strips at the time about young kids, at a time when everyone was trying to emulate the success of the Yellow Kid, and not the most popular (apparently, the main character's big line was saying "allright" a lot), it is still amazing art, and very early. It is nearly impossible to find originals of these early strips, particularly hand-coloered by the artist! Thanks to Robert Dennis for light restoration work and cleaning.

Great Little Allright Sunday Ben! Goldsmith has a similar look to early McCay and Richard Outcault. Congrats!!
