Description

I fondly recall Dick Giordano. He kindly accepted my requests for two sketches, Blue Beetle and Wonder Woman, in my book at Heroes Con 2009. He finished them in short order. He wore white loafers, which are the perfect retirement shoe and which I need!

He was a bit challenged by his hearing difficulties during the Charlton panel with Steve Skeates and Roy Thomas, and a second panel also with Roy Thomas. That said, he took them in stride and good humor. That said a great deal about the kind of person he was, which is no doubt why he was such a great mentor and editor to many artists, who are grateful and fond of him. He was widely respected in the professional community from what I understand.

I was concerned he might not return to the next Heroes for physical reasons because he went from no wheelchair, as I recall, in 2008 to needing one throughout the 2009 con. He didn't return, passing away a couple of months before Heroes 2010. He left behind quite a legacy of not only stories and art but also the mentoring of many comic book professionals who subsequently created their own stories and art for us to enjoy. We all would be lucky to leave behind something as impactful and positive as that.
