1965 Abbie an' Slats Sunday

Raeburn van Buren (January 12, 1891-December 29, 1987) began as a magazine illustrator and gained his lasting fame through the strip Abbie an' Slats (1937-1971). It was invented by Al Capp and written by his brother. As the subtitle suggests, the strip was largely overshadowed by a supporting character, Bathless Groggins, the moustachioed old man in the last several panels. Never, a big success, the strip is still recalled fondly by afficionados of comic art.
