It has become hard for me to resist a nice Frazetta when circumstances make acquiring one a possibility. This past San Diego, I was staring at the All Star Auctions booth while sitting across at Albert Moy's. This Johnny Comet was hanging on the wall and calling to me. I walked over for a closer look and five easy minutes later it was mine. The text of the strip had some to do with the decision, love the Al Gore reference, but it was the gorgeous touches of Frazetta the made me want to acquire this daily. When I look closely I can see Frazetta's pencil lines beneath the inks, and I love that. I love the delicate brush Frazetta used inking Jean's eyes and hair -- so fine. The way Frank sculpted Jean's bustline dressed in black is simple, elegant, amazing. Beyond the obvious sex appeal of the strip, there is amazing life in every ink line throughout the four panels. Chief Daniels, Johnny's hair, the eyebrows, the backgrounds, the t-shirt ... every line is a joy to look at. This is early in the run and drawn larger than the later dailies. This one is about 6" x 21". My later daily is about 4.5" x 17".

Beautiful. I'm one of those who think Frazetta's inking is more impressive that his paintings. Of course, it's all due to his facility with a brush, but his skill and nimbleness are incredible.
