Karate Kid vs.
Big Barda by
Nate Stockman and
Simon Gough
Simon Gough, who has colored some of my commissions, posted a link to Nathan "Snareser" Stockman's deviantart page on one of his journals and I spent the next thirty minutes or so staring at all of the drawing in his gallery. I noticed he had drawn quite a few Legion characters so I figured he would be up for contributing to my “Karate Kid vs.” collection. I gave Nate a list of opponents to choose from and he chose Barda. I love that he set the fight on Apokolips. I love the Kirby dots. But my favorite thing about this piece is that Barda just looks like a total warrior who is both focused on her opponent and is totally enjoying the battle. That’s the way she should always look while fighting, in my humble opinion.
Val Armorr could be in trouble for this fight. Barda ranks up there with Superman and the Hulk in strength and durability, but she’s also a master of hand-to-hand combat, she’s wearing Apokoliptian armor, and she has the mega-rod. Val is probably faster than her, and if he can avoid her blows, he might be able to find a weak spot in her armor. His best strategy after that would be to take the meg-rod from her. And since he’s taken Batman’s utility belt right off of Bruce’s waist before, I think he can do it. Then he’s just gotta hit her with the rod many, many times. And if that doesn’t work he just needs to run away as fast as he can.
If you like this piece, then by all means go buy some of Nate's comics and/or commission him yourself.
