DescriptionI've always felt that this was one of the 5 or so best images that Jim has EVER done. Just perfect body language to portray a brooding, seething Submariner. I'd rather have this piece than any of the covers in the series.Social/Sharing |

I agree 100% with your description on this one Scott. A truly exquisite piece that really captures the essence of the character. And I love all that undersea background. Had the pleasure and privilege of seeing this in person and almost forgot how much I missed seeing it! Beautiful!

I wasnt't crazy about the Heroes Reborn line, but this piece was something else. I agree, this splash is MUCH BETTER than all the FF covers. Jim Lee hasn't much more pieces of this level.

I am not sure what it is about Namor that engages me so much. Is it the sense of histrory, since he has been around so long or is it that whenever he is around you know something is going to happen. I realize that this piece wasn't hard for you to get but regardless, congratulations are in order because this Sub Mariner image maybe in the top 3 images ever done of Namor. Great piece Scott!

I remember seeing this page in issue 2 and being blown away. It just captured Namor like I'd never seen before or since.

This is to me a unique piece of art. The b&w & inking job in general depict everything I ever sensed in Namor. Cold & dark character lost in his thoughts. Would do a lot to own something like that. Thx for sharing Scott, Olivier-Brussels

I know this has been up forever but this is ridiculous. You need to be tested for the inker's equivalent of steroids.

I was never was a big Jim Lee fan myself. But this is a very nice piece, very Bill Everett like. I love the hair flowing in the water effect & the giant clam shell throne. For those who are asking who is Bill Everett he was the creator & original artist of the Sub-Mariner.

Wow! It is a rare piece of art that captures the essence of a character that you have in your mind and then takes it to another level. When you see it, you know it and this certainly is "it". Namor at his absolute and majestic finest! Incredible work all around on this masterpiece!

Hi Scott - longtime admirer of everything in your gallery, first time poster. I never get tired of looking at his one. I wish this series and many other comics came out in just B&W.

I still have mixed feelings towards the Image creators going back to work for Marvel after swearing they wanted to branch out and build their own legacy but Jim's art was so stellar at this time that I had to buy the books... however, issue 300 of WildCATS or whatever number it would at now would have made for a better topic of discussion...

One of the most powerful pages of Sub-Mariner ever. Lee's pencils are precise and sharp. Williams inks are a deep and detailed. Both Artists create a perfect match that makes the piece fly high. Really high!

I'd be interested to learn what other pieces by Jim are in your top 5. I can totally see why you opted to hold on to this one. Impressive collaboration.

it’s my absolute grail of grails in terms of Namor pieces. I don’t know what I’d do to get some thing like this.

Now that is when a drawing becomes a PORTRAIT. The full essence of the character is there. Timeless.
