DescriptionAwesome Spider-man prelim piece, done by one of the all-time greatest Amazing Spiderman artists, John Romita Sr. It is an incredible image with Spidey doing what he does best, catching bad guys! I am not sure of the exact origin for the piece, but it seems like it may date from the 1970's, and could be related to the Spiderman newspaper strip (which was started by Stan Lee and John Romita in 1977). Romita wrote "Italian Sketch (Reprint of Strip)" at the bottom, and I was told it could have been done as a cover prelim for a book that collected Romita's Daily and Sunday Spidey strips. However, I have not confirmed that, so the piece is sold as-is. The piece is done on trace-type paper, which I assume is vellum. The actual drawn artwork area is approximately 7 5/8" by 10 3/8". The drawing fills almost the full page (entire page is about 8 1/4" by 11 5/8"). Quality Romita Sr. vintage Spidey pieces have gotten tougher and tougher to find, and this is an outstanding example that would be a great piece in any collection, and would look fantastic framed. It is signed by Romita at the lower right border.Social/Sharing |
