DescriptionThis is two of the panels from a very early Beetle Bailey daily. These constitute the entire gag. The missing panel has the exact date and, presumably, the set up. Mort Walker was the brains behind a number of strips, most significantly Beetle Bailey and Hi 'n Lois. Beetle was originally a college kid who joined the Army about a year after the strip begins. It looks like some of the flavor of the college strip carried over into 1954.Those things flying in the last panel are "records" the primary means by which people played prerecorded music in the 1950's. Strangely enough, it took me over ten years to acquire my first Mort Walker piece and then I got two at almost the same time and they were two pieces I had tried for separately years earlier and they were the only Mort Walker pieces I ever bid on.
