Kosti Merilainen cartoon 1922

Kosti Merilainen (1886-1938) was a cartoonist and a painter in a notorious circle of early 20th century Finnish bohemians.
It seems that especially the Swedish tradition in early Scandinavian magazine cartoons was that their caption was not just a sentence, but a whole descriptive paragraph. Here's this cartoon's entire caption in Finnish (written on the back of the cartoon):


Talonpoika tulee kerran asioille kauppias Guseffin luo. Ollakseen vähän hienotunteisempi kysäsee (sic) hän, josko kauppias Piseff on kotosalla.
Konttoristi: "Ei täällä asu ketään sen nimistä. Täällä asuu kauppias Guseff".
"No olkoon Kuseff sitte!" karjasee (sic) ukko suuttuneena.


What is it all about? A really dumb and awkwardly told joke about how someone's name, when pronounced wrong, sounds a little bit like "piss".

Yeah... it would've almost been better just to see the picture.
