Description

Magnus has been on of the greatest italian comic artists, ever. Both pages featured in this gallery come from Kriminal, the breakthrough work for the young Magnus in the italian comic field. The series lasted 419 issues that were published sometimes monthly, but mostly weekly or bi-weekly between 1964 and 1974.

The pages in this gallery were published in 1967: during the same months, in the USA John Romita Senior was running Amazing Spider Man, and Kirby was just one year out of the Galactus trilogy on Fantastic Four. History of pop culture during those years was being made by comics much more than today: and Kriminal made no exception in Italy. The violent attitude of the main character, the beautiful sexy women, the overall nihilistic tones of the storytelling, the dark settings of the stories, everything in this series was definetely very new, and very hard to digest for the average readers of a country that had yet to know any counterculture phenomenon and whose public opinion was basically ran by the Catholic Church.

In these pages, for the first time, a generation of young readers could get a glimpse of the future – or, should I say, a shade?
