Bushmiller: Sluggo's Junky Uncle, 1941

Original pen, brush and ink drawing for the "Nancy" strip which ran on January 16, 1941. This is on a little bit larger, thinner board than later in the 40s. Nancy was still vaguely a continuity strip at this point, and this is from about a month's worth of strips centered around Nancy and Sluggo's new Chinese friend, Floy-Floy, who flouted many Asian stereotypes while reinforcing others (his father runs a laundry, natch). It's somewhat progressive that Nancy and Sluggo make fools of themselves on several occasions by ineptly trying to appeal to Floy-Floy's Chinese side. The strip is in unusually good condition.
