Description
If this Re-Legion cover seems a little familiar to you , your memory is not failing you nor are your eyes decieving you. We did a version of this same cover several months ago.

Here is a link to it.

That first Re-Legionversion of the cover featured the clones of Ferro Lad, Invisible Kid and Chemical King. But like so many other covers in this Re-Legion project, John Watson and I had debated if the Action Comics cover wasn't just as well suited to highlight another Legionnaire..in this case Triplicate Girl / Duo Damsel..Even though I was thrilled with John's work on the first version...we just had to go back to this cover. And, I suppose in its own way, its fitting that we would redo this cover twice for the heroine named Duo Damsel.

Triplicate Girl ( as she was then ) was introduced into Legion mythos via a back up tale in Action Comics when Supergirl had her first visit from the Legion of Superheroes. She had the ability to split into three seperate bodies, a very handing trait in confusing the Maid of Might.

She lost one of her bodies fighting Computo..that story along with the death of Ferro Lad , made the Legion very exciting to me . It meant that you never knew who was going to be in danger next . She lost another of her bodies in a battle with the Time Trapper ( The Main Infinite Timelines Villian..which is why I wanted at least one Re-Legion cover as homage to their inter-twined and unhappy history ) as she avenged the death of her first real romantic crush : Superboy.

She has even suffered the indignity in one of the Legion incarnations of been gnawed to death by rats. ( I have the orignal art of that event but I am NOT posting it here ) .

She along with Bouncing Boy were trail-blazers as the first married couple in Legion history. She has mentored dozens of heroes through her work at the Legion Academy. She has been a charter member of the Legion Espionage Squad. One of the reasons, that we included her in different incarnations and costumes was that even her sometimes doubtful fashion sense ( thanks to Dave Cockrum ) help avert a planetary Civil War. ( See image below )

The nature of her powers meant that Triplicate Girl had three times as many chances to get injured, mutilated, or killed as her teammates, but no matter how often or how bad she was hurt, Triplicate Girl bounced back. She is all things, sweetheart, mistress, wife and den-mother to the Academy members. She is loyal and true.

Her strength of character is easily a match for the muscles of Kal, Kara OR Mon-El, and her inner heroism even let you forgive her complete lack of color sense. Throughout all incarnations of the Legion, she has remained a smart, capable, and impressive presence, and (along with Bouncing Boy and others) the sight of her triplicating herself has become one of the iconic images of Legion history.

Three times the hero in one package, Luornu proves that it’s not your level of power that matters, it’s your level of courage…

John Watson took all this and with different incarnations ( even the TV Cartoon version ) showcases her rich history in this Infinite Timelines tie-in. John Watson is a rare talent and I love having the chance for him to revisit such a dramatic Action Comics Cover. This is all John from start to detailed finish. His tonal work really adds so much to this cover.

Enjoy

Watson and Ivy continue to improve and I can only wish Levitz or Shooter were writing the actual stories being illustrated here

Wonderful Duo Damsel cover. Always had a bit of a fanboy crush on Luornu as a kid!
