Legion of Superheroes Homages to Avengers 118 ( Infinite Timelines : Battlelines - First Blood)

Avengers 118 was the conclusion to the first big superhero crossover. Long before there was "The Crisis on Infinite Earths" , we had an amazing summer event called The Avengers/ Defenders War. I read each chapter and marveled at the sheer number of heroes involved. It seem fitting to take a cover from that story and weave it into the Infinite Timelines Event..

This is where it gets to be fun. Chris Ivy and I came up with a set of images for the main Infinite Timelines event but covers like this help link them together and tell the backstory.

How did Kid Quantum, and Dreamer end up dead on a slab in the Legion morgue which was the image from Infinite timelines Chapter 2 ? This battle with the Time Trapper, Mordru and the Emerald Empress reveals all. We had great fun drawing characters from all incarnations from the Emerald Dragon Ultra Boy to the descendant of Shazam ; Thunder..

It also ties in with the Metal Men Re-Legion, an Infinite Timelines Untold Tale which featured Saturn Girl and Kid Psycho. This is where it gets to be fun, pulling all the different strands of story together...

Steve Gumm did an AMAZING job. He left his mark ( and my name, albeit hidden ) on this piece. He is a great guy to work with and I hope you consider him for your commission. The sheer volume of characters make something like this hard to pull off but Steve did it in style..its a great tribute to an old style superhero slug fest !
