DescriptionAs everybody remembers, most of the Born Again narrative is not classic superhero action, but it’s rather focused on the guilt, the loss, the fear, the rage, the resilience of the many characters featured. Then, at the end, we have the cathartic confrontations of #233, the final chapter. Aside for one brief interlude (from which this page is taken off), and aside for the famous last two pages (that using a grand total of just 5 panels abruptly - and perfectly - closed the story), most of this issue is devoted to two battles: in the first one Daredevil is facing Nuke - who's trying to kill him; in the second one, instead, DD joins Cap against the USA Army - who's trying to kill Nuke (it took six whole issues to set the ground for a single battle, in a media where usually six panels without a punch are already considered too much).Given the steady crescendo of Mazzuccheli work along the seven issues of the saga, there could be possibly some argument to place Daredevil vol. 1 #233 ("Respectfully dedicated to Jack Kirby" by his authors) in the group of the better drawn comicbooks of the modern/bronze age: up there with Uncanny X-Men 268, Doctor Strange 55, Fantastic Four 236, and a very few others. In this page you cannot resist admiring the great montage that cuts from the first wide shot to the small details of the hands/eyes/face; or loving the funny stance of Cap big frame on the tiny office chair (perfectly conveying the hard relationship between a man out of his time and a technology 50 years younger than him); or appreciating how the thick black ink is there to depict actual dark - not just a trick to give the page a moody atmosphere. Furthermore, I really love when I can find a piece of art that is made like a collage, like this. The final page is the combination of two different sheets of art: you can find the other one here below among additional images, with further art and the instructions for the print. Talking about Miller’s lines, one of the things that really struck me in the last chapter of Born Again was the overall representation the Avengers: they are portrayed as real, down-to-earth guys working as governement secret agents. In this page we have one the best "Captain America origins piece" ever written. Narration flows smoothly as a third person stream of consciousness. In a very few sentences, we get the better possible rationale for the super soldier creation: "We could have won the war with clean hands" - which definitely beats, at least in my league, the usual "We wanted to kick some nazi butts" (…Miller work was so great, in those years. Before he turned to be an extreme right wing prophet, his writing was so deep, and effortless, and natural, like anybody’s else before or after him. Just think what would have happened if he had a chance to reshape Captain America heritage, back then, the way he did for Batman: today the Sentinel of Liberty would be an exciting, inspiring crossover between Bruce Springsteen and Clint Eastwood). As a final note, I will confess that only while writing these lines I noticed that the super soldier program is called here "Project Rebirth". This way, it becomes some kind of evil counterpart to Matt Murdock’s hard journey to be “Born Again”. While the hero struggles are meant to sort some new order out of chaos, the actions of Kingpin, Nuke, and the corrupted army officer are producing chaos through order's various disruptions. Brilliant page from a defining Daredevil story which reshaped the character - the Born Again arc was a perfect blend of innovative, cinematic art and some of Frank Miller's best storytelling ever. You are very, very lucky to have such a superb page from one of the finest pairings and graphic narratives around. Grail page, without question.

As great as the Artist's Edition is, it's still not quite the same as holding the real thing in your hands. Congrats, Lorenzo!

Fantastic page from a key storyline in Daredevil lore. The wonderfully cinematic panels evoke the artistry of Frank Miller's Dark Knight Returns and Sin City pages. Congrats!

Great page! Intense without any overt action and so well constructed. These books are gold. The story and art are unforgettable.
