Manning, Russ - Fantasy Advertiser January 1948

One of the earliest known Russ Manning originals to exist. This is an original illustration from the January 1948 issue of the Fantasy Advertiser drawn by noted comics/book/magazine artist Russ Manning (signed bottom right). The art is pen/ink on paper and was originally drawn on two seperate sheets(as it exists now)- size of the top sheet (the demon) approx 8 x 10 inches, size of the bottom sheet (the Wizard) approx. 8.5 x 8 inches. There is a fold horizontally across the top sheet at the level of the bottom of the demon's beard, the glue stains in both pieces are the remains of a text page which was glued to the art. Both the demon's head and the Wizard's cloak are original art pasteovers(on regular paper). There may be additional art underneath but I cannot confirm this. An overall beautiful, interesting, and historic piece itself. Purchased from my old CFA-APA pal Scotty Moore -- one of the most generous collectors I've ever met -- in August 2005.
