12.5x20.5" edge-to-edge on Strathmore paper and done in acrylics. My grail.

George won the 2003 Eisner Award for Best Painter/Multimedia Artist for this book.

This piece epitomizes George Pratt's art and person to me. The allure begins with it's unusual dimension (12.5x20.5"). The length, coupled with the art going edge-to-edge, makes the beautiful sea of red seem to go on forever and creates an intact world free of disbelief, perfect for this scene from a dream where the main character conjures up an image of a long gone love. George's use of flowing, non-conformng, yet entirely confident and consistent lines is fully realized in this piece, both in how he shapes human forms, as well as in the flowing robe that helps frame the piece and which conveys a great deal of the piece's moodiness: mystery, violence, beauty, longing, and stillness. But the absolute kicker for me is how he drew the two hands, particularly the two thumbs, of the women Mariko. Both thumbs are literally floating in three-dimensional space. You can instantly understand both the depth and impossibility of this caress.

The main image is a high-res scan George sent me of the art that's cropped at the bottom to fit the cover for print. He couldn't find a scan of the full sized piece, which has been framed for two decades, but the low-res second image shows the full piece so you may see the composition.
