DescriptionDC ran a horrible crossover story through its annuals in the mid 1990s entitled "Bloodlines" that saw the creation of new characters, regular people who gained super-powers when bitten by malevolent aliens. It was an absolutely mess, but something great came out of it: Tommy Monaghan, AKA "Hitman." The series by Garth Ennis and John McCrea was one of the most unusual and ballsy things to come out of the DC Universe at the time, and its 60-issue run (61 if you count issue #1,000,000) stands out as one of the best runs of the 1990s.This page, from Part 5 of the "Tommy's Heroes" story arc, features the title character and the memorable Natt the Hat in a couple of panels, along with malevolent superhumans Skull and Scarlet Rose. McCrea's exaggerated, dark style suited the tone of these characters perfectly, but this page also spotlights his skill when it comes to settings. The African backdrops are lovely and convincing.
