Description
Original cover art for Human Torch #16 (Timely, Fall 1944) by Alex Schomburg. I'm pretty sure this is the only Schomburg Timely cover still known to exist. Has anyone seen or heard of another?
P.S. This cover is on display through September 5, 2022, at the Marvel: Universe of Super Heroes Museum exhibition, currently at COSI. Here's the info (you'll need to cut and paste the link):

I must say that this really is one of Schomburg's better comics covers.

How could a cover like this be topped??????? Tell you what...it can't!

This transcends! Comic book imagery, as an artform, deals in hyperextension, hyperbole, and exaggeration. Schomburg was one of the inventors of the artform and remains one of the most important practitioners. This cover is exceptional and shows why. WOW!

A whole other level* I truly find it hard to believe that this still exists. I will say that it couldn't have landed in better hands. Truly an impressive cover in a leauge all it's own.

Just wonderful to see something as special and historic as this. It would be great to hear about the provenance of the piece down through the years of the different custodians someday

This is absolutely stunning! Schomburg illustrated some amazing, intricately detailed covers during the Golden Age for Timely / Marvel. I'm so thrilled to be able to view a scan of one of his originals. This is definitely a historic piece. Big congratulations to you on this one and your other superb acquisitions.

Schomburg did some spectacular covers, but something about this one's aerial perspective has always stood out. Incredible piece of history from a Golden Age master!

This piece is one of the Grail of Grails to me. I absolutely love Schomburg war time covers. They are exceptional pieces and to hear this might be one of the only ones if not the only one know to exist it is priceless. Glad to hear it has been traveling at a museum for all to see. Whish I had the chance to see it in person. Maybe one day.
