Judge Anderson, 2000ad Annual 1990, page 47

Page 7, panel one, is rife with tongue-in-cheek symbolism. Three little sexist piggies are framed between the inverted V-shape of the she-wolf avatar’s legs -- they are tiny, helpless and insignificant before the “V”, a symbol for the vagina and of womanhood itself. The men point and cower before the vagina, even the one in the middle who looks a bit like Bruce Willis (who never once pointed and cowered at anyone in a Die Hard film but did in fact wear a very similar grubby vest). As the avatar sets about murderously purging the club of the sexist pigs, Anderson arrives in the second panel on her Lawmaster. Austin, with typical attention to detail, shows how hard it is to dismount a Lawmaster given their size -- Anderson is awkwardly contorted as she slings her leg across the high body of the motorcycle. Anderson finds it difficult to dismount the powerful mechanical engine between her legs -- a symbol of Anderson’s growing confidence in her new-found womanhood and of her reluctance to surrender it. Meanwhile, the avatar continues her rampage. Bruce Willis dies hard, as do many others with him. Anderson enters the club and considers the quickest way to prevent further loss of life is to shoot the avatar… in the back -- more symbolism (perhaps floating the notion that the sisterhood often stabs itself in the back and, like a bucket of crabs, women sometimes keep each other back when men aren’t) or mere pragmatism?
