Description
This is Bill Ward at his best. It'ss a conte crayon piece done on tan paper, presumably to enable him to use white crayon effectively. It is gigantic, 17" by 23+, drawn from edge to edge. I'm not sure how they reduced it using 1960's technology. According to the cardboard wrapped with it, it was published in Romp #1, 1967. The caption is, "One thing for sure, Miss Ames, you certainly keep the office staff conscious of our product." This is a surprisingly clean caption for a Ward cartoon. It reflects a vision of female beauty more in tune with the ideal of the 1950's than 1967, shimmery blonde hair past her shoulders, a clingy sweater, a knee-length hem, hiked up with legs crossed to show a bit of thigh, long legs sheathed in shiny nylons, bedroom eyes and ample cleavage above a concealed cantilever bra.

That's a gorgeous piece indeed! And yes, it's quite tasteful, which isn't always so obvious when it comes to Ward :)

He got very rough sometimes. He's the most Jekyll and Hyde of the old GGA artists. This one is definitely Jekyll.
