Description

Karate Kid vs. Bengal by Humberto Ramos

I remember when I first saw Humberto Ramos's art in the Milestone comic series Hardware. His style was vastly different than the art that was previously in the book, and I loved it. Not long after, Humberto really made his mark on Impulse, and I've been following his work ever since, from Crimson to Spider-Man to Out There to X-Men. So I was all kinds of delighted when I saw that Humberto was going to be at Wizard World New Orleans this year, and with the help of Joseph Damon, I set up this commission before the show. Bengal is a character that I have liked from his first appearance. His story of revenge against the soldiers who massacred his village was very cool to me, and I loved his fights against Daredevil, Red Wolf and Night Thrasher. Humberto got to draw Bengal in his arc on Avengers: The Initiative and of course he did an awesome job so I asked Humberto to draw Bengal fighting Karate Kid for me. I'll be honest, I expected greatness from this commission and boy howdy did I get it! I love the poses and grey tones in this piece, but it's the fierce determination shown in each opponent which really blows me away. Big thanks to Joseph Damon for setting this up and to Humberto for delivering the goods!

Bengal is a master of many martial arts and weapons. He's also extremely tough and stealthy, able to sneak up on even Daredevil, who has enhanced senses. So yeah, I think he'd give Val Armorr a decent fight, at least for a little while. But after Val disarms him and figures out Bengal's limits, it's gonna end quickly. But Bengal has reformed and is a martial arts instructor now, so he'd probably welcome the learning experience and ask Val to guest teach his class.

If you like this piece then please do go buy some books featuring Humberto's work in either physical or digital format and/or go commission him yourself.
