Description
A nostalgic purchase from the Feb 2014 ComicLink auction. Great dynamic Kang image that has been used a lot since.

Besides the fact that Kang is one of my favorite villains, I can recall this issue coming out signaling Kang's return (since his "death" in Avengers #143 ten years earlier) and the cool new Kang alternative selves "backstory" that it introduced. The fact that it had a large image of Kang on the cover (and Hercules and Captain America) certainly helped draw me in.

This cover and Kang image have been reused several times since its original publication--from collected Avengers works (Time and Time Again; The Once and Future Kang), to trading cards (like Marvel Beginnings and Marvel Top Trumps), to the Kang mini-bust by Bowen.

This storyline also set the stage for or influenced many later Kang appearances, including in Avengers Forever.

Note, in production Marvel had to move up and adjust the new dressing/logo that had just come out the month earlier (now with the new "Marvel 25th Anniversary" at the top) since its bigger size partially covered the top of the Hulk. It looks like they may have also experimented with a Hulk stat over the Hulk original art.

Good point Dino--I shouldn't ignore the fact that John drew some X-Men on the cover and inside this issue as part of the initial alternative universe framing story (where Storm and Colossus are Avengers). It was a cool cameo.

That was one of my favorite runs of Avengers! The art was stellar and this cover is a great example of it!
