DescriptionAmazing Spider-Man 700 saw the "death" of Peter Parker.(Please check out my three pages from this issue) As Ock assumed the role and responsibilities of being Spider-Man in his own haughty & egotistical way, we saw Peter still lingering on as a ghost in Ock's subconscious. His ethereal form would swing around with Ock and react to Ock's various shenanigans. But, sensing Peter's presence in his subconscious mind, Ock battled Ghost Peter and eradicated him. I was floored. I really thought that was the end of Peter. But then again, I'm pretty gullible. As I was reading Superior Spider-Man 25, wrapped up in the whole Venom story, I was shocked and thrilled to see those ghostly blue hands appear out of nowhere to help the trapped Ock. Ghost Peter was back! "I'M PETER PARKER! I'M BACK! AND THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING! BECAUSE I SWEAR TO YOU ... I WILL BE ---- FREE!" This has been a very enjoyable ride for me. I will say this --- Marvel does like to shake things up, and good for them! I don't think it's ever good to 'rest on your laurels.' Yes, many Spidey fans were enraged, but the arts are *supposed* to elicit all kinds of emotional responses in us. The Death of Superman has become a treasured memory over the years, and I know this Death of Peter Parker story line will too. I'm very excited to see what the Amazing Spider-Man title relaunch has in store for us. Special thanks to Joe L. for his help in acquiring this piece. Social/Sharing |

I haven't read this issue yet, only heard about it. Seeing this, though, has me chomping to finally read the tale. Thanks for the great description of this piece!

Oh man, Ryan, you NEED to read the Superior Spider-Man series --- the one that started right after ASM #700. So much great stuff with Ock trying to assume the mantle of Spider-Man and Ghost Peter being a sort of Jiminy Cricket guide for him.
