DescriptionI've enjoyed Mouse Guard by David Petersen since its release in 2006In his series, the valiant Mice of the Guard protect and encourage their mouse community. Their adventures find the addressing all the predators and other perils found in the forest and there are many. David’s created a terrific world for these characters and he shares it with other creators in the Legends of the Guard series. David tells an a good story and his art is exceptional. One reason his work feels so real is that he builds models of his sets so that his camera angles are always true. These models are as wonderful as the book. The third Mouse Guard arc covers the “Black Axe” and those that have carried it. I really enjoyed the Black Axe story arc and when David appeared at Comicpalooza 2014 with a Black Axe drawing, I snatched it up. There was only one problem, he didn't have a scan of the piece. So, we agreed that I'd leave it with him and pick it up from him at Heroes Con 2014. David delivered and I can now post the art in my CAF. The original page is 12x12 (like the OA for the books) so my scan is a little trimmed. This piece was published in his 2014 Sketchbook and captures Midnight with the axe. Midnight stole the axe from its rightful owner (Celanawe) to form a kingdom from the independent cities and towns of the Mouse Territories. His story is told in the first MG arc - Mouse Guard Fall 1152. The second arc (Mouse Guard Winter 1152) tells of how the next mouse to carry the axe was found. P. S. This piece started a long journey towards acquiring a painted piece. Because I had bought this, I got cheap at the Comicpalooza auction and let a very nice painted piece escape. Fantastic piece, Alex. If I could do nothing else but add David Petersen pieces to my collection, I'd be perfectly happy.
