DescriptionThere was a period when Nick drew a cover for this series, a cover for that series, a cover for whatever series needed a cover. So Nick's covers covered the gamut. This is one of those Cardy covers you would miss if you weren't watching. It's a great piece that deserved a better coloring job (see additional image). Especially in the sky. Geez, even the top 1/3 is just a plain pea soup green, no art at all. There are so many details that were obliterated, even the lightning bolts. I had been offered this piece many, many years ago. I passed on it. Not because I didn't want it but because I was buying several other Cardy covers at the same time. I simply could not afford this one. Of course, prices being what they are now, I really should have gotten it. It's not like me to mention cost. But let's face it, collecting comic book art is a luxury. The Challengers of the Unknown were created by Jack Kirby and Dave Wood. Social/Sharing |

Great composition on this cover- Cardy horror covers have always been toward the top of my favorites, and here he combines horror and Kirby heroes: a nice mix, and a strong image.

Cardy on the Challs? Unbeatable! And, I agree completely, so much better without the colors!...

What a great piece--Cardy mixing super-heroes with horror, awesome stuff. Cardy is one of the greatest cover artists ever--and that's coming from a dyed-in-the-wool Marvel fan.
