DescriptionThere's an additional image of a scan from the magazine. It's possible the gouache has faded very badly. The blues are missing from the foreground figures. The earth tones are missing from the flesh tones, background and background figures. It's a magazine illustration for an article about the fast growing trend of fashionable sneakers. It features Cher, Billie Jean King, Peter Falk (as Columbo), Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Anne Bancroft (I think), Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Woody Allen. Nick gifted me the drawing that would be on the other side of the fold (see the additional image). It's Carol Channing who was not sporting fashionable sneakers. Besides the registration marks, you can see there was a little back and forth about who it would be... the face was a paste on. I believe Nick used gouache. Social/Sharing |

Oh Wow ! It is wonderful...although I felt old when I realized that I could recognize most of them even without your "cheat sheet "

This is fantastic! What magazine was it in? I'm curious to see how the combined image with Carol Channing looked.

Blue gouache does seem to be remarkably prone to fading. See the Hurst Jantzen ad illustration in my gallery. The blues are so faint compared to the published version.
