Description

I have yet to discover where this Edward Sorel caricature of the Bambino originally saw print, but it did appear in Sorel's book, "Superpen". It's such a fine drawing, from the wonderful caricature, to the incredible pen work. And as one who enjoys seeing the process in the work, I see that Sorel replaced the Babe's cap. I assume that he wasn't happy with the first go-around. The person I acquired this from owned the piece since the 1960s, so I assume the piece dates from that decade.

The photo reference likely used by Sorel is the additional image in this gallery.

Update: I emailed Mr. Sorel, and he responded that the caricature appeared in the "Washington Post Book World". Mystery solved!

I like it! Reminds me of Heinrich Kley's kinetic pen illustrations. Great one Rob!

Really expressive illustration. You could look at this for hours. Is it vellum glued to paper?
