DescriptionI became a fan of the artwork of Glenn L. Barr Jr. when he first did the cover of Greg Theakston's THE BETTY PAGES #1.I began searching out his work and was lucky to meet him a few times at the Chicago ComiCon where I bought some art from him picked up some sketches, made arrangements for the purchase of some of his THE BETTY PAGES ANNUAL illustrations and his double-truck illustration from Greg Theakston's other magazine - TEASE! (featured in this gallery room). I commissioned a drawing of Dejah Thoris which turned into a painting (you can see a scan of the painting elsewhere in this CAF Gallery room). I only learned about the existence of this cover painting about five years after it appeared. Glenn told me about it, and said that the original painting had long since sold. I bought several copies of the magazine itself from Glenn. Flash forward to a year or so back when Paul Handler posted a scan of this very cover painting in his CAF Gallery. I mentioned in the comments something to the effect that if he would ever part with it, I would love to get it. Paul and I were doing a a trade over something else that he wanted and I asked him if we could work out a trade on this stunning painting. In one of the book collections of Glenn Barr's work, GLEN BARR'S HAUNTED PARADISE, (La Luz de Jesus Press/Last Gasp, 2006, p.8), J.J, Marcucci states, "Jerry Vile... created a paper that everyone wanted to read for the plain sake of entertainment... When he needed to give his paper the appropriate visual allure, Vile asked Barr to contribute cover art and gave him full creative input. The resulting imagery varied from the surreal - Atlas heaving the world upon his shoulders - to the sensuous - the scintillating Betty Page perched atop Mayan ruins." Well here you can see the sensuous painting referred to in Marcucci's introduction. In the "additional images you can compare the printed version of the painting which made it look as though it was predominantly done in brownish hues, whereas the original painting is actually accenting greens. Glenn's work is amazing. I wish there was more of it on CAF. This is a beautiful cover!
