I figured I'd call today "Fiction House Friday" and post an interior from their pulp, Planet Stories. This one is from the pen of artist Herman Vestal, who was a staff artist for Fiction House. While he worked on many of their pulps, he's best remembered for his SF art, particularly for Planet Stories. Although he painted a few pulp covers, he primarily contributed interior illustrations. This one is from the July 1952 issue and illustrates "Bride of the Dark One" by Florence V. Brown. Fiction House always had such good titles for their stories! And given that this appears to be the only story that Brown ever wrote, odds are good it's a penname. I'm sure it's completely unintentional, but our hero and the man in the doorway bear more than a passing resemblance to a famous SF hero and his main nemesis.
