DescriptionI always loved this page because it works so well as a stand-alone, complete page. Plus it has a great Spider-man image, Peter Parker, (and the Human Torch was also a nice extra). Love that last panel. I've had this for a little while, and want to thank my buddy Ken for helping me acquire this page. The most exciting thing about this page is that the 4th panel actually features a major first appearance "birth" page. That man in the panel at the newsstand isn't just an ordinary background citizen. That guy is actually the major Marvel universe character Dr. Beavers, who all true Marvel fans know is Aunt May's gynecologist! And Netflix is rumored to supposedly, maybe, possibly be thinking about showing him in the background of an upcoming Daredevil episode! Feast your eyes on history here! Social/Sharing |

I remember when this book split up (Christie's? 1996 or so?) this was one of the pages I most coveted, for the reasons you mention -- plus it sets up the whole story in six panels. Great art, and so energetic.

Aside from the splash, this was the page I always wanted from the book for the reasons you detail.

Like 3 perfect daily strips stacked neatly onto one page! Each tells it's own story yet collectively they set the stage for this classic issue!

Great looking page, Mark. Glad you found a worthy replacement. I recall bidding on a page from this very issue many moons ago which may have been sold by you.

SM21 - what a subtle title for such a great page! I love all the great storytelling going on on this page with the signature panel at the end. Hearty congrats on such a treasure!

Wonderful example . . . and you won't find a better panel featuring Spidey than that last one!

That first panel is a historically relevant moment that explains a lot about the legal system in the Marvel Universe. Who can forget when Abner Jenkins stood before the National Costume Association and said, "You'll pry my high-tech armored costume with flight capabilities from my cold dead purple fingers! Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go kidnap the Human Torch's girlfriend." (The other panels are pretty good, too.)

So much for prison reform. The guy's like, 200 feet outside the place, and he's putting his costume back on to go after the Torch!
I can never say enough about my love for the Ditko Spider-Man years. He was really the perfect fit. When I first heard they wanted Kirby, but decided his figure work was wrong, I thought they were crazy. Kirby was the King! However, once I read the early books, I realized how wrong I was. Ditko portrayed it all so perfectly. This page is a dynamic example of how right Marvel got it!
