DescriptionI've been posting on facebook a number of items from the estate of Jack Darrow relating to Otto Binder. However, among the items at the estate auction were four pieces of pulp art (Darrow at one time had much more art, but had disposed of most of it over the years). A Dold interior and a Paul interior were won by a phone bidder (and I've never figured out who got them). However, I did win two Weird Tales interiors by Jack Binder. Jack was Earl and Otto's brother, and while he had a career lasting about five years in the pulps, he had a long and successful career in comics. This one was an interior from the April 1935 issue, illustrating "Shadows of Blood" by Eando Binder (so truly a family affair!). Among the correspondence I acquired was a letter from WT editor Farnsworth Wright dated April 8, 1935, telling Darrow that they were sending him this illo under separate cover at Jack Binder's request. The stylistic change from the pulps to the comics is amazing to see. The story from your other posts is awesome and educational.
