Golden Fleece pulp, February 1939 - "Lords of the Tideless Sea" by H. Bedford-Jones

Tonight, a painting by illustrator Harold Delay. For the pulps, Delay contributed several fine covers and interior illustrations for the adventure pulp, Golden Fleece, as well as for Weird Tales. He also did work for some of Golden Fleece's sister magazines, such as 10 Story Book. Prior to that, he did book (including an Oz book), magazine and advertising illustration for many years, and eventually did do some comic art in the early 1940's.

Delay lived in the Chicago area, and this painting came out of a closet in Elgin, IL several years back. I've heard that at one point, a bank in Evanston, IL was decorated with Delay murals, but I've never tracked that down.

I'm only aware of a few originals of his that have survived. This was the cover for Golden Fleece, February 1939, illustrating "Lords of the Tideless Sea" by the prolific H. Bedford-Jones.
