Description

This Common Elements concept has been driving me insane for years. I desperately wanted to see this one come to fruition, but I couldn't find the right artist at the right time. At long last, when Adriana Melo's commission list opened, I seized the opportunity. The concept was tailor-made for Adriana's talents, and she crushed it.

From left to right, our trio of butt-kicking ladies consists of:

Gogo Yubari, the meteor-wielding schoolgirl-bodyguard-assassin seen in the film Kill Bill, Volume 1.

Nico Minoru, leader of the team of superpowered youths known as the Runaways.

Vixen, longtime member of various Justice League permutations, and before that, of Suicide Squad.

Because all three of these characters are female, it just makes sense that the common element they share is their connection to all-female rock bands: The Go-Go's, The Runaways, and Vixen. So, naturally, only a female artist could bring this scenario to life in exactly the right way.

Why? Because sisters are doin' it for themselves, that's why.

Special thanks to Adriana Melo, for pulling off a tricky concept I had a killer time finding the right talent for, and to Ivan da Costa, Adriana's art rep at Chiaroscuro Studios, for overseeing this commission. Thanks also to the King of Inking, Bob Almond, who polished this artwork in his usual thoughtful and professional fashion.

Boo-yah!!! Rankins returns with a vengeance -- nobody can come up with the common elements like you and NOBODY and I mean NOBODY delivers the goods over and over -- Adriana was an inspired choice for an inspired commission....glad you are back!!!!
