Description

You are bidding on a blank cover variant of Marvel Comics' Dr. Strange#1 Vol. 4 (2015) with original hand-drawn inked art depicting the sorcerer supreme and Marvel Cinematic Universe film star Dr. Stephen Strange. It is rendered by Joe Sinnott in ink and graywashes and the pencil version was used for the Inkwell Awards' 7th Inking Challenge named after Joe. Joe worked on Dr. Strange when he was inking Marvel's the Defenders over Don Perlin circa 1981-82. Joe signed and donated it in 2017 to the non-profit Inkwell Awards.

Joe Sinnott is an Eisner, Inkpot, Alley and Inkwell Hall of Fame Award recipient which is named after him. Joe has been working in the comic book sequential art medium as both an illustrator and premier inker for over six decades, leaving an influence on innumerable artists over his career as a master of the art form. He is probably most-recognized as one of Jack Kirby's best collaborators and THE Fantastic Four inker for 200 or so issues. Joe has been an Inkwell Awards special ambassador since 2008 and while having retired from Marvel in 1992 he has continued to ink the Amazing Spider-Man Sunday strip written by Stan Lee as well as cover recreations, commissions, and variant covers.
