Riccardo Federici is probably the finest illustrator of his generation I've ever seen... a modern Caravaggio who happens to work also on comic books. His work on "La Madone de Pellini" and "Saria" for the French market is nothing less than astonishing.

I had a few subjects that I would have loved to see him illustrating, but ultimately chose Batman (my favorite superhero), the Joker (my favorite villain), and Harley Quinn (I love her since Batman: The Animated Series).
I didn't ask for any particular situation or costumes; that's because I wanted to fully see Riccardo's take/vision of these characters.

I already knew it would turn out incredible, but it went far beyond that.
Judge for yourself.

A magnificent composition that gives each character the right space and where all of them express their true self (Batman here is so badass that you almost doubt who's the hero and who's the villain, it's a very thin line). The details are stunning, and the costumes of all the characters are simply breathtaking.
And finally, the atmosphere, nocturnal, is a perfect fit for a Batman-themed illustration!

This is, for me, easily one of the very best Batman renditions EVER.

Such a stunning piece. This commission motivated me to reach out to Riccardo. I've had a large Batman painting from him for about a month now, but still cannot show it as DC hasn't announced it yet :( Anyhow, exceptional painting once again...very happy DC is giving Riccardo continued work...perhaps the best color-painter in comics... what a gem!

Whoa, many thanks for your kind words, Kyle. Much appreciated. Can't wait to see your Federici Batman piece, I'm sure it's mesmerizing. And, yes, I do believe he's the best painter in the field right now. When I got this from Riccardo, he said to me that it was a curious coincidence I asked him this kind of subject since in that period he was in contact with DC to do some work for them, even if there was still nothing official yet, so fingers crossed! But I told him I was absolutely sure he would do wonders working on DC characters, both on illustration and sequential art. Guess I was not wrong :)

Wow! Wow! Wow! What an extraordinary painting of Batman, Joker and Harley Quinn by Riccardo Frederici! You couldn't ask for a more powerful painting of the Dark Knight! Working in tones of deep blue, purple and black, Riccardo gives us a chilling vision of Batman confronting Joker in supreme anger! Batman here is almost as frightening as the Clown Prince of Crime himself! Batman radiates anger here, from his scowling face to the firm grip he has on the Joker and his fury is so great we wonder which is the most dangerous? From the expression on Harley Quinn's face, even she isn't sure. This is a true masterpiece from the brush of the amazing Riccardo Frederici!
