DescriptionI caught up with cartoonist Jose Girabaldi at the Oni Press booth at Comic-Con International San Diego in 2003, and like a few other artists, he rendered a scene in keeping with my "Ouch!" theme that suggests a larger story. Garibaldi's style is clearly informed and influenced by classic cartoons. One can't look at this female figure and not think of Natasha from Rocky & Bullwinkle fame, for example. It's the woman in the sketch that grabs the eye. Despite the artist's simple approach, he convincingly portrays a woman who's dressed to kill. I love how his approach to filling in the skirt with black marker lines suggests the sheen of leather and the way the material pulls across her body. The pencil roughs are still quite evident behind the marker work as well. Social/Sharing |
