Catwoman by Darwyn Cooke

I was at MegaCon 2014 in Orlando all day Friday and Saturday, and had no intention of going on Sunday, but I hadn't been able to meet Darwyn yet, and since that was a main goal for me, I dragged my body back for one more day. Darwyn's booth was very low key and non-descript, I kept my eye out for him while hanging around Ethan Van Sciver's booth. Around 12 noon, wearing a cap and keeping his head low, he walks to his booth and starts talking to some friends near by. I rush over and begin to fanboy-out on him. I ask him if he's taking a commission list that day and he says no because he's looking to leave soon. I say it's cool with me, and we just talk for a few minutes. I tell him how he was my introduction into really liking the character of Catwoman, how I thought New Frontier would really stand the test of time among the greats, and that I came on Sunday just to meet him. He was incredibly nice and humble. As I was about to leave, he told me to come back in an hour and he may have something for me. I did, and this surprisingly large sketch (11x14 on Bristol board) was waiting for me. I insisted on paying (he charged me peanuts), and this simple sketch has been one of my favorite pieces in my collection ever since. His immense talent will be missed, but it's his gracious and humble personality that will be missed even more.
