Description

The first in a series of illustrations which Raymond did for the Atlantic Mutual Insurance Company featuring a family and its yacht, the WE FOUR. Raymond enjoyed pursuits such as yachting. I have only found reproductions of this series of illustrations in YACHTING MAGAZINE. It is hard to imagine a company commissioning advertising artwork to appear in only one publication, but this appears to be the case! The copy for this August 1941 ad entitled "Gangway for a Sailor!" reads "Splash go two pails of water, and another American family -- with its own idea of an impromptu christening -- goes down to the sea. Week-ends and vacations together on the WE FOUR -- a healthy, happy family life on the water. It pays big dividends!" I purchased this original in September of 1995.
