Description

Scott Chantler is a cartoonist who's never caught people's attention with his interpretations of iconic comics characters from major publisher. Instead, he's carved out a strong reputation as an original graphic novelist from smaller and independent publishers. My favorite examples of his art are found in Northwest Passage, Days Like This and Scandalous (the latter two with writer J. Torres). His art is like a cross between the styles of Jeff Smith and the late Mike Parobeck. Like them, his simpler approach is nevertheless effective at bringing entire, disparate worlds to life.

When I gave Scott my themed sketchbook at the 2003 Toronto Comicon, he decided to include a (highly exaggerated) story from his time working in fast food! Funny image, definitely unique in the sketchbook and a great example of his style. I love that you can easily see his blue-line pencil roughs in the fine marker sketch.
