Description

Presenting - the cover for the latest in my All-Star Squadron continuation commissions, in this case issue #76, based on ... well, I hope I don't have to tell anyone here what this homages.

This issue immediately follows the end of the All-Star War (issues #70-75) - the entire team get together to reflect on what's happened; Uncle Sam (at FDR's request) leads a group of heroes to a new base in Washington, as requested in issue #68 and made more urgent following the attempt on the president's life in issue #69; FDR also asks that, given the importance of 'vital war work being carried out at the Woolfolk-Beck Institute in Fawcett City', a number of the heroes continue to operate from there, under the command of Spy Smasher --- but that all the heroes should continue to be affiliated to the Squadron. By acclimation, Uncle Sam and Spy Smasher become co-chairs (with Liberty Belle and Hawkman) of the expanded team.

... meanwhile, in the real world --- in part this cover is because I wanted to make good on my original intent that these covers would feature the wider Fawcett and Charlton rosters alongside the Quality and DC heroes, but also because I love the cover to All-Star Squadron #1 and I assumed that Roy wouldn't be averse to reusing the basic layout. And Brendon and Brian Fraim did a phenomenal job on it with some incredibly obscure heroes (and boy, did this stretch my powers of finding reference)!
