Description
In the 1970s Marvel's Star Wars comic helped turn around the company's fortunes. Somehow, Marvel's writers and artists managed to capture a lot of the magic of the original Star Wars films and the series was a massive success. Unfortunately, cover art to the series is difficult to acquire these days. I was fortunate enough to pick up this beauty after missing out on it in two separate auctions. I managed to track down the winner of the second auction, who was nice enough to let me buy it directly from him (Thanks Brett!). Anyway, I'm delighted to own this cover, especially since it features virtually the entire Star Wars cast. It's got a huge Darth Vader playing a "game of death" using Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo, Chewbacca, R2D2, CP3O and Baron Tagge, as game pieces. Certainly it's not the first chessboard cover I've ever seen, but it's pretty awesome nonetheless.

Maybe my favorite of the Infantino Star Wars covers, this is such a great image--love Infantino's quirky version of Darth, and who doesn't love a chessboard cover??  More jealous congrats on this one!

"Knock on my door; knock next time!"

"Yes sir."

"Did you see anything?"

"No, sir. I didn't see you playing with your dolls again.

"Good!"

Can't beat a Vader cover by Infantino.  His take on the ultimate bad guy is a personal favorite.
