Description

This is meant for a blank cover commission but the concept sketch was so good, I just had to reuse it for a pinup. This is Gwen Stacy, formerly Spider-Gwen and currently Ghost Spider as of the TV series, Marvel Heroes Rising: Initiation. I wanted a simple pose that still evoked the essence of Spider-Man, and then I decided to go with warm colors and lighting that was in the same vein as Steve Ditko's era. Etched with mixed media on Bienfang paper, I thought that the enclosed space was a nice throwback to those expressionist model shots on fashion covers in the 90s. Since it's a spider-person, I had to throw in webs, and the Uniball pen and ruler served to fill the negative space with some great patterns. After completing this pinup, I know now what will work for the sketch cover it's meant for and what won't work. I'm keeping the latter to myself because flaws and all this is a spectacular sketch and one of my best of Gwen.
