DescriptionLast of the four pages from this issue....and I'll admit that it is my least favorite. It does have an interesting structure across the top of the page but I'm not really sure it helped tell the story any better. The faces in the second row aren't consistent or helpful; we've got one smiling guy, an angry guy, a shocked girl, and the witch from "Hanzel and Gretel" shouting "LOOKY THERE...". I'll have to re-read the story to see what emotion should be in play but it seems odd that there is laughter around a funeral pyre. The final panel is a nice wide image but again I'm not clear how it served to tell the story. And my last nitpick is about the moon/mukluk boots that are happening for Atom. He's got HIPPO proportioned feet!?!?! That might really drive me crazy if it weren't for Atom's ponytail, bracelets, necklace, WWE Championship belt, and a crotch-towel. I know it was trendy in the day, but THOSE are hard to overlook or forgive. Social/Sharing |

So much running. Makes me think they should make a Sword of Atom movie with Tom Cruise as the lead of course. Run Tom, run.

Broderick is using Gil Kane's costume design, which did include some unwieldly and thick boots. Broderick was probably used to drawing these from his time rendering Acroyear from Micronauts, who had similarly clunky boots.

Great observation. I always wondered about the design choices for the "Sword" version. The neckalce, the big boots, the belt (especially that big belt). I didn't know about Broderick's work on Micronauts so I went an looked...yeah, that's definitely similar.
