Spider-Gwen #1 Sketch Cover 03 A

This is one of two sketch cover commissions that I was tasked with, both focused on Gwenom. I've admittedly never tried my hand at Gwenom before. A friend had to forward me some character designs so that I could get a broad idea of how the symbiote was expressed in Spider-Gwen's dimension. The big departure for me was how the artist decided to convey the alien in small hair-like tendrils along the limbs. I find this works to accentuate the curves of the figure. Further, the infamous Venom tongue was like the zipper to the jacket that seemed more liquid than solid. To evoke the idea that this is a heroine corrupted, I opted for the black eyes with white pupils. It makes Gwen look more malevolent than what we are used to. Given I just did a straight Spider-Gwen front cover for the same client, also posted in this gallery, I wanted to go in the opposite direction. Rendered with mixed media.
